General Pet Information, Illness

Pets and Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

These are trying times for people the world-over. Everyone’s thinking about how to keep their families safe from a virus no one’s ever been exposed to … making it a dangerous health issue for people to think about. Businesses are facing challenges they never expected to deal with. People are losing their jobs (hopefully only on a temporary basis).

BUT WHAT ABOUT OUR PETS?  We’re listening to people ask “can my dog or my cat contract Coronavirus?”  “Can they get sick?”  “If they contract it, can they spread it to more people?”  “If they get it, can it morph into something more dangerous?”  All great questions.  Fortunately, the CDC has addressed COVID-19 and animals. While it seems very unlikely pets can contract the virus — we recommend you visit their site regularly in case they make any revisions.

Here is the link to their site. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prepare/animals.html

As per the CDC: “In the United States, there is no evidence to suggest that any animals, including pets, livestock, or wildlife, might be a source of COVID-19 infection at this time.”

RISKS TO PETS  “CDC has not received any reports of pets or other animals becoming sick with COVID-19.  Further studies are needed to understand if and how different animals could be affected by COVID-19.”

They also offer suggestions how to protect your pets should you get sick from the virus.  Read it all here.

Thanks everyone… and be safe so you and your families can stay healthy.

Best regards,
